One thing you don’t want when it’s hot outside in Winston Salem is an ailing air conditioner. Before you call an HVAC professional, try some easy troubleshooting. Here are some common problems and remedies.
Your AC won’t turn on
Check your thermostat. Is it set on cool? If it is, turn it down five degrees. If your AC doesn’t cut on, check for a tripped circuit breaker or a blown fuse. If it’s not a circuit breaker, call Advanced Appliance Service. A bad motor or compressor could be the issue.
Your AC doesn’t cool adequately or doesn’t cool at all
Turn your thermostat down five degrees, and see if your living space becomes more comfortable. If your system’s performance is still poor:
Our technicians will check the evaporator coil, as well as the condenser. The components may need to be cleaned. Also our experts will check the refrigerant. It may need to be recharged.
Check around the condenser. Clear it of all vegetation and obstructions. Also make sure there’s clear space above the condenser.
If those remedies don’t work, your system might be too small for the space it needs to cool. It may need to be replaced with a system that’s properly sized for your home. Our technician can assess your need for a larger system and help you through the process of replacing it — this time with a unit that’s perfectly matched to your home’s requirements.
Your AC goes on and off too frequently
Check your condenser for vegetation and obstructions. If the outside of the condenser seems to be okay, you could have a dirt buildup inside your condenser. One of our expert technicians will clean the components. But just like a system that’s too small, an AC that’s too big for your home can do a poor job. It will go on and off continually, failing to keep your home sufficiently cooled and dehumidified. One of our experts will talk with you about replacing your unit with one that’s properly sized.
A key way to avoid many operating problems is having your AC serviced regularly. One of our HVAC professionals will make sure your system’s components are clean and problem-free. They will check for refrigerant leaks and make sure all settings and connections are correct.
